Nugenix is amongst the most popular testosterone boosters on the market. Although I have not personally used this supplement, my review takes a look at the research behind each one of its ingredients. Based on my analysis of the research, supplementing with Nugenix is not likely to have a significant impact on your testosterone levels. That being said, Nugenix does contain ingredients that have been shown in clinical research to improve aspects such as blood flow, growth hormone production, and exercise endurance.
The most important point that I make over and over again in my posts is that supplements should be used for what they're made:
To supplement your nutrition, training, and lifestyle.
Relying solely on supplements to get you results is not a viable strategy. That being said, supplements can help provide an edge and help you see results faster when your diet, exercise, and lifestyle is in line with your goals as well.
So, to get back to the question:
Will supplementing with Nugenix help you increase your testosterone levels?
Based on my analysis of the current research, probably not. But it can improve other aspects such as blood flow and endurance, which may indirectly affect your T.
My aim with this review is to provide you with all the necessary information to make an informed decision before purchase. The most important aspect before buying any supplement is to skim through the ingredients and see how each one of them individually affects the body.
The Nugenix ingredient formula is as follows:
The primary ingredients in Nugenix are comprised within a proprietary blend, so we can't be sure of the dosage amounts. Nonetheless, let's go over each of the ingredients within this blend one at a time.
Vitamin B6 has the role of helping in the maintenance of a healthy functioning nervous system. More specifically, it plays a part in helping make hemoglobin, which is the compound that delivers red blood cells to all the organs in the body and provides them with the energy from food. Furthermore, it also plays a role in controlling blood sugar levels and regulating mood.
It has not been studied for its direct effects on testosterone, but the fact that Nugenix contains B-6 is definitely a plus point.
Like B-6, B12 also plays a role in a number of different bodily functions ranging from the regulation of mood to the regulation of energy levels and even maintaining brain health.
The most common use of B-12 supplementation is in addressing adrenal fatigue and impaired metabolic functions.
Again, B12 has not been studied for its direct effects on testosterone but it is definitely a plus point in terms of benefiting overall health.
Zinc is a trace metal that is naturally present in some foods and in the environment as well.
Zinc is touted as a testosterone booster, but the truth is that it will only increase your testosterone to the extent that you are currently deficient in it. If you are already getting enough zinc through your diet, then supplementing with zinc will not increase your testosterone levels even further.
That being said, Nugenix only contains 7% of your daily requirement for zinc so even if you have a deficiency, supplementing with nugenix will not help top up your levels that much.
L-Citrulline is an amino acid primarily used as a sports supplement to reduce fatigue and improve endurance.
Upon consumption, L-Citrulline is processed by the kidneys and converted into L-Arginine. L-Arginine is a potent nitric-oxide (NO) booster that dilates the blood vessels and improves blood flow to the muscles.
This begs the question:
Why not just supplement with L-Arginine?
Well, it's because L-Arginine goes through a more intensive digestive path than L-Citrulline. As it turns out, L-Citrulline supplementation is more effective at increasing L-Arginine levels in the body than L-Arginine supplementation.
L-Citrulline has also been described as a pro-erectile agent. In one study, 24 men with erectile dysfunction were given 1500mg of citrulline daily for one month. At the end of the month, 12 men reported being very satisfied with the treatment (1). Note that this research is based on subjective observations.
L-Citrulline also seems to interact with growth hormone (GH) release. Trained athletes given 6g of citrulline malate prior to exercise had 66.8% higher GH concentrations compared to placebo (2). This effect, however, requires exercise as a perquisite.
The addition of malic acid is the difference between L-Citrulline and L-Citrulline Malate. Malate further enhances L-Citrulline's fatigue fighting capabilities by helping the body recycle lactic acid and use it for energy.
Fenugreek is a popular herb in Arabic regions that has traditionally been used to enhance libido and masculinity. It has also been used to regulate blood sugar in diabetics.
In terms of the research, there are mixed results. In one study, resistance-trained men receiving 500mg of fenugreek had significantly higher testosterone levels compared to placebo (3). In another study, researchers concluded that fenugreek supplementation had no impact on testosterone (4).
A third study concludes that supplementing with fenugreek significantly improves libido and may help in the support of normal testosterone production (5).
The bottom line:
The current 3 human studies performed with fenugreek show mixed results. Further research is needed to confirm its status as a testosterone-boosting ingredient.
Tribulus terrestris is a herb that has traditionally been used to support male virility. It is perhaps the most popular ingredient used in testosterone supplements today.
The research done on tribulus and its interactions with testosterone find consistent results.
Elite male rugby players given 450mg of Tribulus Terrestris daily for 5 weeks experienced no increase in testosterone levels compared to placebo (6).
In another study, men aged between 20-36 were split into two groups. Subjects in the first group supplemented with 10mg of Tribulus per kg of bodyweight. Subjects in the second group supplemented with 20mg/kg of bodyweight of Tribulus. After 24 days no differences in testosterone levels were noted (7).
In a third study, 63 infertile men were given 6g of tribulus root. After 60 days, the men were found to have improved markers of erectile function, libido, and increased testosterone levels (8).
The bottom line:
Infertile men supplementing with Tribulus Terrestris seem to experience minor increases in testosterone levels. This effect does not carry on to otherwise healthy men.
People who've bought Nugenix through Amazon seem to have very mixed views. As of this writing, it's almost an even split between the amount of 5 star and 1 star reviews.
5 star reviewers claim that it has definitely enhanced their results when combined with exercise and that supplementing with the daily serving has "worked".
1 star reviewers claim that this product is a waste of money and that it doesn't work.
Sure, psychological markers of improved testosterone levels include an overall increase in sense of well-being. But the only way to sure whether or not something has worked to impact your T is to go to a lab and having them run your blood work. And even then, there is a great variability depending on what time of day that you go.
The most important takeaway for you here is to look at the ingredients list and rehash what this product is actually made of. There is not strong evidence supporting the credibility of Nugenix as testosterone booster, but there are some aspects of it that can help you achieve certain results.

I always recommend to consult with a medical healthcare professional before trying out a supplement. In this way, you can be sure whether the ingredients in a particular supplement will have adverse reactions in your case or not. That being said, Nugenix contains ingredients that have been tested and are most likely safe when consumed by the general public.

Made by the same company but marketed as the Advanced Free Testosterone Complex. Nugenix Ultimate Testosterone has no proprietary blends and the ingredients are listed out as is. The primary ingredient is D-Aspartic Acid.
Studies have found that D-AA supplementation can boost testosterone levels in the short term (8), but that levels return to the original baseline level after a month so (9). The increase can prolong in infertile men though (10).
Test X180 is a best-selling testosterone booster supplement at GNC.
The primary ingredients include testofen (aka fenugreek), tribulus terrestris, a ginseng blend, codryceps sinensis, and a vitamin blend.
Cordyceps appears to stimulate testosterone systhesis in rats (13), but no human studies have been performed with it as yet.
The primary ingredient in the vitamin blend is vitamin D, which has been shown to have a positive correlation with T-levels (14).
TestoBoost is a supplement made by BioScience Nutrition.
The primary ingredient is tribulus terrestris. As you know, this ingredient is proven not to have a statistically significant impact on testosterone levels.
Some other ingredients include long jack, zinc, and magnesium.
As per it's effects on testosterone, they will probably be negligible based on the ingredients list.
Manufactured by SuperiorLabs, Test Worx is another best-selling supplement on Amazon.
The primary ingredients are in a proprietary blend which includes stuff like tribulus, maca root, tongkat ali, and l-arginine.
The ingredients may have some effect on testosterone, but this interaction will probably not be enough for you to increase T-levels by a statistically significant amount.
